The Prelinger Archives collects 20th-century American advertising, educational, industrial and amateur films. Most of its films are ephemeral ones not held in other repositories. Of its collection of 45,000 films, approximately 2000 are available for digital download from the Prelinger Collection at Internet Archive. Most of the material on the Internet Archive are available under a Creative Commons Public Domain License (Creative Commons has since discontinued the use of this specific language, but the rights to use the films have not changed). Freely available films date from 1903 to 2019 and include instructional videos, advertisements, home movies, and newsreels.
